HIV/AIDS Youth Summit is an annual prevention and education program offered to area high school students by the AAC. The half-day program is designed to educate young people on the spread of HIV and how to protect themselves. Usually the day opens with a guest speaker who talks openly with the kids about sexuality. Then, through breakout sessions, boys and girls can openly discuss concerns and have questions answered by professionals. This program is well-received in the Huntsville area and has been successful in encouraging high school youth to start peer-led awareness programs in their own schools. Social Network Testing is a program designed to have HIV + individuals encourage others in their social network to get tested. The program offers incentives to both the HIV+ person and their friends for getting tested. Evidence shows that if a person tests positive, then others within their social network are probably also positive. This program is designed to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS through the use of testing. |
