Programs for Parents

Can We Talk
A program designed to teach parents how to talk with their children about sensitive subjects such as peer pressure, puberty and sexuality, self-esteem and mixed messages in the media. Developed by the National Education Association Health Information Network as a 4-session program with each session taking approximately one hour, the program has proven successful in delaying a young person’s first sexual encounter.

Talk, Listen, Connect (TLC)
A six session, relationship-based program that teaches couples techniques and skills to enhance the quality of their relationship, communication, and shared commitment to safer behaviors. The program is based on the AIDS Risk Reduction Model, which organizes behavior change into three phases: recognize risk, commit to change, and act on strategies. Emphasis is placed on emphasizing the personal, relational, and societal influences on behavior. Counselors will apply techniques commonly used in family therapy, allowing couples to work together to solve shared problems.
