How To See a Doctor

Accessing Care

After receiving a reactive HIV test, you can request a confirmatory test through the AAC Davis Clinic. Our staff will draw blood for the HIV confirmatory test, known as a Western Blot. If you have a Western Blot that was taken at another clinic, those results should be forwarded to the Davis Clinic before your first appointment.

In order to schedule a new patient appointment, you must have a positive Western Blot, confirming you are HIV positive. When you come to the AAC's Davis Clinic for the first visit, you will need to bring a picture ID, insurance card (if you have insurance), and proof of address. There will be paperwork to be completed, so try to come at least 15 minutes early. Please plan to be at the clinic for at least three hours on your first visit.

You will see the nurse practitioner for a complete physical and HIV 101. Our medical staff will draw blood to help us determine where you are in the disease process and if medications are needed. You will be scheduled to come back in the next 3-4 weeks to get the results of your lab work.

Following your appointment with the nurse practitioner, you will meet with one of our social workers for a psychosocial intake assessment. This intake will help us determine whether you need assistance with housing, transportation, substance abuse or mental health issues.
