Our Philosophy

The Davis Clinic clinical staff strives to provide quality medical care to those living with HIV/AIDS regardless of race, sexual orientation, ethnic background, mental health status or ability to pay. We work together providing quality healthcare that will enable our patients to experience quality of life through encouragement of regular medical visits, a healthy lifestyle, keeping current on the latest treatment recommendations, and positive general mental health. Our team seeks to treat our patients with dignity and compassion.

Medical Team Bios

  • John Dunkel, MD-Medical Director

    Dr Dunkel has served as the Medical Director since we first opened our doors in 1992. He attended medical school at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He finished his residency in Internal Medicine at Barnes Hospital in St Louis and completed his Infectious Diseases fellowship at Washington University Medical Center. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Dr Dunkel is certified by the American Academy of HIV Medicine as an HIV Specialist.

  • Ali Hassoun, MD-Staff Physician

    Dr Hassoun is a graduate of the University of Baghdad, School of Medicine. His initial training was with the Royal Australian College of Physicians, Auckland, New Zealand. He finished his residency training with New York Medical College and completed his Infectious Disease fellowship with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases and certified by American Academy of HIV Medicine as an HIV specialist. He is a Clinical assistant professor with the University of Alabama-Birmingham at the Huntsville campus. He is in private practice as an Infectious Diseases specialist and HIV specialist with Alabama Infectious Diseases Center. He has been with the Davis Clinic since 2005.

  • Hafsa Siddiqui, MD-Staff Physician

    Dr Siddiqui graduated from Dow Medical College in Pakistan. She finished her residency in Internal Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University and completed her Infectious Diseases fellowship at the University of Utah in June of 2008. She is board certified in Internal Medicine. She joined our staff in September 2008.

  • Melanie Montgomery, MD-Staff Physician

    Dr Melanie Montgomery is a graduate of the Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at the Naval Medical Centers of Bethesda, MD and Portsmouth, VA. She is board certified in Internal Medicine since 1996. She currently practices as general internist with University of Alabama and holds a clinical associate professorship of medicine at their Huntsville campus. Dr Montgomery has been with the Davis Clinic since 2006.

  • Nursing Staff :: Sherri Shipman, CRNP; Mary Rozier-Hachen, RN-Nurse Manager; Alicia Day, RN-Staff Nurse; Teresa Walsh, RN-Adherence Nurse; Terri Stone, LPN-Staff Nurse; Arn Hanson, Phlebotomist.

    The nursing staff has a combined experience of over 20 years in HIV care. We have backgrounds in internal medicine, family medicine, mental health and respiratory care, as well as community work with other AIDS service organizations. It is our philosophy to work together as a team and use our combined experiences to care for our patients. We take pride in providing compassionate nursing care to those living with HIV/AIDS.
